If a student received less than a 35/50 (70%) on the Dragonwings Final Test, they may submit test corrections to me by Wednesday, May 21st. The highest grade a student will be able to earn with the corrections will be a 70%. Students wanting to correct their test should submit the following:
Periods 1/2 and 5/6 got their tests back today. Period 3/4 will get them back on Monday. The Dragonwings final test will now be on MONDAY. The project is also still due on MONDAY. Please make sure you are finishing the project up over the weekend. They are looking great, and I'm excited to see the finished products! Monday We will be discussing the finale of the novel and recapping everything that has happened. Students will also be assigned their FINAL PROJECT for the novel. The project is due on Monday, May 5th. They will have some time in class to work on it, but it will need to be worked on at home as well. **I have some supplies in my room for the project, if you don't have them at home. They will also be having a FINAL EXAM on the novel on Friday, May 2nd. Tuesday PARCC Assessment: Students will take the district's PARCC benchmark test. It will take two days to complete. Students should begin working on their projects at home. Wednesday PARCC Assessment: Students will continue taking the district's PARCC benchmark test. It will take two days to complete. Students should be working on their projects at home. Thursday We will spend all day working on the Dragonwings Final Project. Friday Dragonwings Final Exam-they may USE their novel on the test. When the students finish the exam, they may work on their project. Monday Dragonwings Final Project due I've been noticing a decline in homework completion lately. Today, I gave the students a reading check quiz to see if they were keeping up with the homework. It was unannounced. Many students did not do well. Tomorrow is the weekly quiz. The questions tomorrow will be similar to the questions from today, along with the usual vocabulary, stems, and other class content. I urge students to catch up on reading tonight so that the quiz tomorrow doesn't go poorly. I will also be doing a notebook check to make sure students have been keeping up with their vocabulary and journal entries. Parents: In the latter part of next week, we will begin another novel study. The students will be reading Dragonwings by Lawrence Yep. One of the things we will talk about while reading the book is annotating (note-taking). Obviously, if the students are using one of my books, they will not be able to write directly in the novel. They will have to write on sticky notes-which is not a terrible thing, just one extra step. **If you think it would be beneficial for your student to be able to highlight/write directly in the novel, then I suggest purchasing a copy for them. Amazon has it new for about $6. The picture on the right is the version we have. **This is NOT A REQUIREMENT. It is just a suggestion** If you intend to purchase a book for your child, please let me know so I can let our reading specialist know how many to pull out of the closet for me. My supply of pencils is running low... you need to have your own. -Remember to have your reading log signed each weekend so I can check it on Mondays. -Show your LMS PRIDE by bringing your card to class. Make sure you are always prepared, on task, doing your homework/classwork, and making good decisions. -Our unit theme is about BULLYING. Remember my challenge to you: Think about bullying in terms of yourself, and make yourself the farthest thing from a bully. The only person's actions you can change are your own. SO, CHANGE! |
