Parents:
In the latter part of next week, we will begin our first novel study of the school year. The students will be reading From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. One of the things we will talk about while reading the book is annotating (note-taking). I talk to them about the many ways that this can be accomplished: highlighting, post-it notes, writing notes in the margins, etc. I even show them the books that I read and have taken notes in.
Obviously, if the students are using one of my books, they will not be able to write directly in the novel. They will have to write on sticky notes-which is not a terrible thing, just one extra step.
**If you think it would be beneficial for your student to be able to highlight/write directly in the novel, then I suggest purchasing a copy for them. The paperback version is only $6.99 at Barnes and Noble (and if you're a bargain hunter like myself, you may be able to find a cheaper copy on sites like half.com or ebay.com.) The picture on the left is the version we have.
**This is NOT A REQUIREMENT. It is just a suggestion**
If you intend to purchase a book for your child, please let me know so I can let our reading specialist know how many to pull out of the closet for me.
Thanks!!!
